A smarter fence for curious cats
Feline Fence started with a real problem at home and grew into a cleaner, easier way to help keep cats safer and in the yard.

We grew up in Alabama with open land, rolling hills, pasture, and plenty of room for cats to roam. When we moved to Florida, everything changed. The homes were close together, most backyards had PVC fences, and letting a cat out was no longer the simple thing it once was.
At first, we treated it like we always had. We let our cat Nugget outside and expected him to stay close to home. That changed the day a neighbor brought him back to us. She was not angry, but she helped us understand there was a real problem. Nugget was getting into her yard and going after squirrels and birds.
We did not want that to continue, so we began the journey of finding a better way to contain a cat safely at home.
Cats are agile, determined, and surprisingly hard to stop. They can squeeze through small gaps, climb well, and jump much better than most people expect. Keeping Nugget in the yard was much harder than we imagined.
We tried several ideas. We even bought an electric fence wire to run around the top of the fence, but that did not work. Cats do not understand electric wire the way other animals might. Over several months, I watched Nugget closely each time he escaped, trying to understand exactly how he was getting out and what kind of barrier might really work.
I knew a tall net system stretching upward was not a good fit for our neighborhood. It would not have looked good, especially with nearby neighbors. A roller system might have helped, but I am a renter and did not have permission to drill into the owner’s fence.
So I had to think differently.
Using simple hooks, PVC, and a lot of trial and error, I began building a system that eventually became Feline Fence. The goal was to create something that worked well, looked clean, and did not depend on permanent changes to the fence.
It worked. After a few failed escape attempts, Nugget stopped trying to get out. The system changed the way he interacted with the fence line, and it gave us peace of mind.
That is when Feline Fence became more than just a solution for our yard. I wanted to share it with other people facing the same problem.
I also wanted to make it easy. As an engineer, I naturally try to design things in a way that solves the problem without making life harder. I wanted this system to be simple enough for my wife to install. She is very smart, but like many people, she does not want a project that depends on drills, hammers, or a trip back to the store for missing parts.
So I built Feline Fence to be as easy as possible. The tools are included. Measuring can be done simply by holding the assembled section in place and trimming where needed. The idea was to make installation feel practical and approachable, even for someone who is not a builder.
Feline Fence was created to help keep cats safer at home, protect neighboring yards, and reduce harm to birds and squirrels, all while giving people a cleaner and easier option for backyard cat containment.
Feline Fence came from a real home, a real cat, and a real need for a better solution.
It was designed to work without making the yard look bulky, messy, or overbuilt.
The system was built to be simple, practical, and easier for everyday people to use.
We built Feline Fence to solve a problem we lived through ourselves. We hope it helps other families create a safer and easier backyard setup for their cats.
